Mountain Pine Beetle: Protecting Your Pines

The mountain pine beetle is a native bark beetle that targets pine trees, especially stressed or overcrowded ones. Adults bore into the trunk, lay eggs, and introduce a blue-stain fungus that blocks water and nutrient flow — quickly killing the tree from the inside out.

Early Warning Signs

• Popcorn-like pitch tubes on the bark (white, pink, or brown)

• Fine reddish boring dust around the base

• Needles fading from green to yellow, then rust-red — usually 8–10 months after attack

• Small exit holes or woodpecker activity on the trunk

Our Solution - We inspect for active infestations, safely remove and dispose of affected trees before beetles emerge, and apply targeted preventive treatments to protect healthy pines.

Healthy, properly spaced trees are far less likely to be attacked — we can thin your stand and improve vigor to keep beetles at bay.
